Curriki Help

About the Help Collection

Welcome to the Help Collection on Curriki, the Global Education & Learning Community. The Curriki Help Collection is designed to offer a framework through which Curriki users can access and share detailed information about and support for using the site.

Use the Table of Contents on the left to locate the information you need. Each section of the help collection is meant to build knowledge step by step, so that by reading through the material in order you can become a more and more advanced user of Curriki.

In addition, the Help Collection is meant to mimic a true curriculum such as you might be gathering on Curriki. Mock “lesson plans” and activities to complete will be available for various sections in order to help you become a “power user”.  Each section also includes various Instructional Component Types (ICTs) and Media Types in order to display the capabilities of Curriki’s resource repository.

If you would like to contribute ideas or information to the Curriki Help Collection, you must first become a member.  Once you have a username and password, you can:

  • Provide feedback or ideas (rather than writing content yourself) by posting remarks, questions, or other information on the "Comments" tab.
  • Click "Edit" to update content if you have substantive extensions, clarifications, or improvements to offer.
  • Click "Build Up" if you have a file to add that will benefit other members' use of Curriki, such as a tutorial on using the site.
Anyone can send questions or comments about this Curriki Help Collection at any time by emailing webmaster@curriki.org.

Enter Account Information

The first section of the page collects the information required to make a new account. This information helps Curriki uniquely identify a member for security and in order to properly attribute any contributions.

Complete this section of the form as follows:

  • Member Login: This is a username that you will enter with your password in order to log in to Curriki. This field must use all Roman characters (i.e., no "*", "&", etc.) because the URLs for your profile and content will be derived from this name. Please note that this field is case-sensitive, so if you type "MYUsername" you must always type it the same way; "myusername" would not work.
  • Password and Confirm Password: Enter a word or code that only you will remember to be used with your Member Login to gain access to your Curriki account. These fields are case-sensitive and must be at least five characters long.
  • Email Address and Confirm Email Address: Your email is used to verify your account. Each email address may only be used once per account. Make sure you type your email address correctly both times, or you won't be able to complete the registration process.
  • Display Name 1 and Display Name 2: Enter the name you would like to appear on the site; other users will recognize you by these fields. In most cases Display Name 1 will be your first name, and Display Name 2 will be your last name. If you are setting up an account for your organization, you may want to put the organization's full name in Display Name 1, and the organization's acronym in Display Name 2. These fields will accept Roman and most non-Roman characters.

Update Default Privacy Settings

The section of the form is collapsed by default, because Curriki has recommended specific settings to make it faster to register (although these can always be edited later in your My Curriki member profile). To review and/or update these settings, click the link to expand the section.

  • Show Your Profile: By default, a new member's profile is displayed, which will allow most of the information you enter in this form to be viewable by other users of Curriki; personal information such as your password is never displayed. Allowing other users to see your profile will help you connect with the Curriki community through your common interests. You can update this field to only allow logged-in members of Curriki to see your information, or to never show other users your information.
  • Show Your Email Address: By default your email address is never displayed. If you would like to allow others to see your email address in order to network with the Curriki community, you can change this setting to either always display your email address, or to only display it to logged-in members of Curriki.
  • Email Options: Curriki will never share your email information. Should you choose to allow emails, you will receive periodic newsletters or other notification emails from Curriki. By default, new members are opted-in to all communications from Curriki. You can change this setting to receive only specific types of emails (i.e., only newsletters), or to never receive unrequested emails. Please note that emails to retrieve a forgotten Member Login or Password as well as emails from Curriki's File Check system always override your setting for Email Options. For more information, please read the Privacy Policy.

Enter Interests & Affiliations

This section of the registration form is also collapsed by default because this information is optional for new members. Filling out this section of the form will help you better collaborate on Curriki, because other members will be able to find you based on common interests. Also, in the future Curriki may send customized recommendations to you based on these settings, or personalize your experience on the site. The following information is requested in this section, which can always be added and/or edited later in the Profile tab of My Curriki:

  • Member Type: This field describes what your role is in an educational setting.
  • Organization Affiliation: Here you can enter the name of your school, district, organization, or company, etc.
  • Subjects of Interest: Select as many subjects and sub-topics as you would like. This information may help you connect with others of similar interests or, in the future, help Curriki tailor your site experience.
  • Educational Levels of Interest: Select as many educational levels as you would like. This information may help you connect with others of similar interests or, in the future, help Curriki tailor your site experience.
  • Country, State/Province, & City: These fields allow you to tell other users where you are located in order to connect with members nearby or, in the future, help Curriki tailor your site experience.
  • Preferred Language: This fields allows you to tell other users what language you speak/read in order to help connect with members who might like to collaborate on educational materials in the same language or, in the future, help Curriki tailor your site experience.
Once you complete the registration process, you can also add a Bio, additional ways you can be contacted, and any personal or favorite websites and blogs. You can also upload your own avatar image to further personalize your profile. Go to http://www.curriki.org/xwiki/bin/view/MyCurriki/Profile and click the "Edit Profile" button to get started.

Save Information & Register

Once you have filled out all of the required information and any optional information you would like to provide, make sure to read through the Privacy Policy and the Terms of Use. You must agree to these policies before you may become a member of Curriki. Check the box next to "I agree...." to finish this step.

Next, click “Save Information & Register.” You will receive an email from Curriki within a few minutes confirming your registration and requesting one final step to become a member: simply click the link within the email. You will be taken to a confirmation page where you can now log in and start using the tools available on Curriki.
